To stay in charge of a situation, know that things are not as bad as they seem.
Trust me they are not.
The best proof is to look back on the past two years of your life. Were there daunting situations that rocked your world?
Yes.
Are you alive and standing today?
Yes.
What you worry about today will matter so little tomorrow.
I live by that mantra. A situation might seem overwhelming. But nothing can inherently ruin you, unless you allow it. Why? Your mind holds the power of perception.
Perception allows you to view a situation from a different perspective. Say your phone breaks. But your uncle promised a newer model. The situation turns out to be a blessing in disguise. I needed a new phone anyway.
But if your phone spoils and you have no hope of a new one, the situation becomes dire.
Same situation, different reactions.
Why hope for good in a gutter?
You might ask:
What’s the point of seeing the “good side” when there’s no good to see? Why hope for good in a gutter situation?
Well…there’s always a silver lining. You just have to see it.
Bad grades in an exam? Tough. But you can identify which subjects to improve.
A friendship breakout? You get a chance to evolve into a better friend.
Life is a coin. It has ‘good face’ and ‘bad face’. Both equal. Our minds, though, are drawn to the bad side. We give them more weight, especially when in pain.
And that influences how you view everything else. The good side becomes obscure.
Nothing is truly out of control. Step away if you have to, give the scenario time, and a better attitude.
Remind yourself, it is not as bad as it seems. There’s always an easy way out.
Rely on God. Grow your emotional intelligence. Sharpen your relational skills.
It takes time. Even trained men experience quandary when they’re in a tight spot.
But continuous growth is better than no attempt at all. Prepare for war in time of peace. Learn to stay steady in the small circumstances.
Remain objective and look at a situation as it really is, not as your fear perceives it.
