How to Redirect Lazy Evenings

Evenings are the most vulnerable part of your day.

It is easier to wind down, relax, and inadvertently waste time in the name of rest.

Yes, there are times you need to kick back after work, and evenings provide the opportunity to unwind. But more often than not, unwinding slips into doomscrolling, idle chit-chat, and late nights doing nothing.

There is a time for everything, including a time to rest. But your evenings should not be wasted.

Do the maths: evenings span from 7 pm-9 pm, on average. That’s 3 hours daily. Multiply by 7 days, 52 weeks, and you have 1,092 hours wasted every year.

A convenient 45 days on zilch.

You don’t want that. I don’t want that either.

So, how do you ensure your evenings are not wasted on lazy TV surfing?

Set a simple to-do list.

Before you roll your eyes, think. Your evenings feel adrift and ready to be squandered on unreasonable activities because it has no direction.

A direction in this case is a simple decision, or a conscious choice of how you want to spend sundown.

That choice could be to rest. But it has to be a conscious choice.

A to-do list provides direction. When you notice an evening being unproductive, sit down and list three things you’d love to do if you had extra time.

Your items could be simple tasks like “clean up room” or “Catch up with Bri”. You could decide to take drawing lessons or fold laundry.

List three of those choices, apportion time to them, and get to work.

Now your evening has a direction.

You have tasks to do, instead of going with the flow and letting life ebb away.
