The Rareness of Discipline

The most successful people have one trait in common: Discipline.

There is a reason:

Discipline is a value.

And value sets people apart.

By definition:

Value is a quality or behavior that distinguishes someone from the majority because it requires effort, sacrifice, or strength that most people are unwilling or unable to consistently display.

A value could be excellence; only a few people excel in their fields. It could be integrity; not everyone has the decency of character.

It could be resilience; only a few people endure hardships without giving up.

The same principle applied to discipline.

Discipline requires you to say no to your whims for a long-term gain. It takes effort and resistance. It requires you to give up immediate pleasure.

It takes work. Real work.

Motivational affirmations won’t do the trick with discipline. It requires determination and established systems to make the journey of long-suffering possible.

Hence why discipline is a rare value.

I won’t try to tell you how to be disciplined. There are a myriad of resources on that topic. But here’s the bottom line:

Success is predictable.

And if you can exercise discipline, you’re well on your way to success, because discipline is a key ingredient for success.
